What I have been doing lately.

Since my last post I have done many things. I quit my job at Books-a-million, and Hancock Fabrics. I now work at Biloxi Tent and Awning where I make and install awnings, and I also work at Beau Rivage Casino where I sew and maintain the costumes of the shows that are here. I got to design and sew the costumes for the Trapeze act. I was very glad to do it. I got to challenge myself by doing and working with fabrics that I was not particularly used to. I was all lycra.

Sew a little- Stitch a little and you are on your way to conservation~

This is just a little project I have been working on. My uncles were redoing this old house and found all these old magazines and baby clothes. Well i took this one garment. I looked it up and its technically called a "sacque" it is full of moth and other insect holes. My mom was just going to throw it away so I took it and began to buttonhole stitch around the holes. I am using the holes as a starting point to conserve the work that someone put into this garment 100 years ago. They are turning out really neat. They look kind of like Lichen.

I have been thinking. I think i want to get a little more life experience before i go into grad school. I am thinking about buying a camper touring the U.S. and making it like this big performance documentary kinda thing.

New work in progress

Well- In my quest to come up with some work that is good enough to put into my graduate portfolio I have started This piece using a 100 year old baby sacque(jacket). The garment from being in an attic for so long has been eaten by moths and who knows what else, so to save it from the garbage, I began to embroider the moth holes in which they begin to form a pattern.

Well it's been a while.

Now I have moved back to my home town and I finally am employed. It is a modest living but I am able to work at night. During the day I work on my graduate portfolio. It is hard to come up with fiber art That i think is strong enough in technique as well as concept. I am working on a few pieces. One piece is a crosstitch of an untraditional image. Another one is using a 100 year old garment. I will be posting pictures when they get further in process. Things are well but living with my family again is very stressful. It is like living in a powder keg.

i am thinking about the future

I have recieved my B.F.A. and found out I graduated Cum Laude. I am thinking about graduate school. I am doing some more research into more schools. So far i am looking into University of North Texas, University of North Carolina, and University of Kansas. I really want to go to North Texas but we will see.
